OUR SCHOOL

Welcome to Lara Primary School. It is a great pleasure to share with you our school, and celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams in our school.

The Lara Primary School Community values a love of learning, a sense of fun, unique talents and an inquiring mind. Students are challenged to achieve their personal best in a safe and caring learning environment.

Lara Primary School supports our school vision by a collection of 6 catch cries

  • difference makes us unique,
  • strive for personal best,
  • be a problem solver,
  • care for ourselves, others and our environment,
  • wonder and discover, and
  • think safety.
These catch cries were developed with extensive school consultation, are clearly displayed throughout the school and form the basis of all learning at Lara Primary School.

Situated at the foot of the You Yangs, Lara Primary School has very strong links with Serendip Sanctuary, and students spend a week each year at the Sanctuary, learning about the environment through technology. We are fortunate to have the support of Parks Victoria and other local agencies such as the CFA in developing a meaningful learning program.

Celebrating 45 years of education, students at Lara Primary School are well catered for by a caring staff with high expectations for student learning. Students are challenged to achieve their personal best in a safe and caring learning environment supported by three goals:
  • To improve and maximise student learning across the whole curriculum with a particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy
  • To improve student engagement, resilience and the capacity of students to be personal learners
  • To provide a seamless education for students K-7 enabling the best possible learning outcomes for all students.

Staff learn and work collaboratively to plan and deliver a rich classroom learning program, with a specific focus on Literacy, Numeracy and whole school Inquiry units. Classroom learning is supported by focused specialist areas in Information & Communication Technology, Library, Art, Physical Education and the Serendip Sanctuary Multi-media Experience. A range of additional opportunities and supports are available to students including the school band ' The Passions', a school choir, computer club, a part time chaplain and participation in local academic and sporting challenges.

Lara Primary School, with a student population of approximately 500 students, is well resourced with physical facilities. In addition to the ICT rich classrooms, all fitted with interactive whiteboards and excellent ICT facilities, facilities include a well stocked library, large gymnasium, music room and art room.

We seek to give out two key messages to every child- ‘you can succeed’ and ‘I will help you do that’.” (Blum, 1996).
