OUR SCHOOL

Lara Primary School is situated at the foot of the You Yangs, on the northern fringe of the City of Greater Geelong. It was opened in 1965 and is one of three primary schools in the township, which has approximately 10,000 residents. The school population, of approximately 530, reflects a combination of descendants of pioneering families and a steadily increasing number of residents who are new to the district.

The school population has increased each year. Being situated conveniently between Melbourne and Geelong, parents are easily able to commute to these larger cities for work, so it is anticipated that the student numbers will be maintained.

Lara Primary School is situated within huge grounds. Gardens and excellent outdoor sporting facilities enhance the learning environment for the students. The school itself is built around a main wing, housing administration offices, the staffroom and seven classrooms. The school is extremely proud of the high-class facilities, including a large school/community recreation hall, canteen, music room, fully computerised library, art room, I.C.T. room and twenty-one classrooms comprised of eleven permanent classrooms and ten portables. Ground developments complement the new buildings and an upgrade of the school oval will be completed once water restrictions are lifted. Community groups use the recreation hall and outdoor sporting facilities.
