Year 3/4
Reading
In reading, students in years 3 and 4 have been establishing effective daily reading habits. Students have been clarifying what constitutes a ‘just right book’, exploring different text genres and reading comprehension strategies. Throughout our reading sessions students will participate in shared reading, small focus groups, independent reading and reflections.
Writing
During Term 1, students in years 3 and 4 will be learning about narrative writing. They will be spending time learning about the text structure, language features and writing features of this particular text type. Throughout this term students will also work on their spelling, vocabulary and handwriting.
Numeracy
During Term 1, students in year 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to learn through ‘hands on’ activities while developing meaningful links between everyday language and mathematical concepts. Students will have a particular focus this term on Number, Place Value and Measurement e.g. Time and Angles.
Inquiry
The purpose of Inquiry is to enhance student learning by making logical links between the world we live in and the different curriculum areas. During Term 1, the year 3 and 4 students will be investigating ‘Who We Are’ and why our emotions are really important.
This term each grade will be attending Serendip, with a focus on investigating the life cycles of insects and flowering trees.
