Year 5/6
Reading
In Reading, students in years 5/6 will be settling into our reading routine with Guided Reading, Reciprocal Reading and Literacy Circles. During our first term, reading and viewing studies will centre on components of reading responses, accuracy, fluency and vocabulary. Throughout our reading sessions, students will participate in shared reading, small focus groups, independent reading and reflections.
Writing
In Writing, students share their thinking. Throughout this term, students will deepen their knowledge of narrative text types. Through this unit of work, students will develop strategies to expand their ideas, structure their ideas effectively, engage the audience, expand their vocabulary and extend their knowledge of conventions and presentation.
Numeracy
This term in Number and Algebra we will explore number patterns involving fractions, decimals and whole numbers. As well as the place value of numbers; recognising, representing and ordering numbers, including decimals. In Measurement and Geometry the students will investigate time; 24 hour time, timetables and elapsed time. They will also investigate angles; how to measure and how to draw angles accurately.
Inquiry
The purpose of Inquiry is to enhance student learning by making logical links between the world we live in and the different curriculum areas. This term we will be investigating Civics and Citizenship. Students will learn about the difference between Civics and Citizenship, the three levels of Government and what makes a good leader.
