At our school, Digital Technologies is embedded into all facets of teaching and learning. The children at Lara Primary School use technology in many different ways and for many differing purposes. Importantly, we are unrelenting in our attitude towards cyber safety and show vigilance in promoting a safe and secure network. Cyber safety, including safe and ethical online behaviour, is paramount and explicitly taught to all students. This includes student incursions and parent forums on the importance of being cyber smart in both the school and home settings.
Aligned with Department of Education expectations, Digital Technology is used to complement learning at Lara Primary School. As such, we minimise device time for students across Years P/1/2, and ensure a maximum of 90 minutes of online activity per day for students across Years 3-6 (this includes online assessments). All devices are owned by the school, with new model iPads for our younger students (at a ratio of 1:2), and new edition Chromebooks for students across Years 3-6, again at a ratio of 1:2. The provision of these devices is designed to enhance typing fluency and aptitude in managing online platforms required for secondary school programming.
