NAIDOC Week
13 - 17 July 2026
NAIDOC Week is a time to acknowledge and celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Lara Primary School, we recognised NAIDOC Week with a range of activities for students, including:
• Recess in the Gym with Indigenous music and dance
• Indigenous-inspired artwork at Art Club
• Wearing the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags
Our First Nations students worked alongside Aboriginal artist BJ O'Toole to create a mural near the basketball court, leaving a lasting legacy for our school community.
Seussical The Musical
23 June 2026
Our Prep to Year 4 students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to see Seussical The Musical, performed by the GSODA Junior Players.
Featuring beloved Dr. Seuss characters such as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat and JoJo, the colourful and energetic production took students on a journey of friendship, imagination and loyalty.
There was plenty of singing, laughter and excitement throughout the show, and our students had a wonderful time.
Year 5/6 Sovereign Hill excursion
11 June 2026
This experience was a fantastic way to bring our Term 2 Inquiry topic, “Gold – how a mineral changed Australia and its inhabitants”, to life.
Students stepped back in time to experience what life was like on the goldfields in the 1850s, exploring the historic town of Sovereign Hill for the day. Throughout the excursion, they participated in a range of engaging educational programs, including panning for gold, a mine tour and exploring the living conditions of the miners.
It was a fun, immersive and memorable day that deepened students’ learning and sparked plenty of curiosity about Australia’s history
Mathematician’s Showcase
10 June 2026
Students were excited to share their learning with families and proudly teach a range of fluency games they’ve been practising in class.
Families joined in exciting activities including ‘Friends of 10’, ‘Double Hat Trick’ with place value on number lines, ‘Choc Chip Cookie’ and ‘Three in a Row’ for multiplication practise and finally, ‘Chance Race’ and Fractional Thinking art designs.
Education Week at Lara Primary School
18 - 22 May 2026
This year’s theme, “Showcase Your School”, provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the amazing things happening across our school community.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of activities that highlighted the many wonderful aspects of Lara Primary School.
Mother's Day Celebration
7 May 2026
Our Mother’s Day Breakfast was a wonderful community event, with many families joining us at school to celebrate the mums and special ladies in our students’ lives. Families enjoyed sharing breakfast together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with students excited to spend the morning with their loved ones.
The morning included food, decorations, and plenty of happy conversations as families gathered together before the start of the school day. The success of the event reflected the care and effort of staff in preparing, setting up, cooking, decorating, and supporting throughout the morning to help everything run smoothly.
It was a lovely opportunity to bring our school community together to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Year 3 - 6 Athletics
6 May 2026
Our Year 3–6 Athletics Day was a highlight on the school calendar, providing students with the opportunity to participate in a range of track and field events in a supportive and energetic environment.
Students took part in activities including high jump, hurdles, 100m and 200m sprints, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus. Throughout the day, students demonstrated perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship as they challenged themselves and supported their peers across all events.
The day ran smoothly thanks to the efforts and organisation of staff as well as the support of families. Students engaged enthusiastically and gave their personal best in every event.
