Here at Lara Primary School, we offer a range of additional programs designed to support students’ social and emotional regulation, self-awareness, confidence, and teamwork skills. These programs play an important role in enhancing each child’s learning journey and overall wellbeing.
All programs at LPS are grounded in the Berry Street Education Model principles and are trauma-informed, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for every student.
Some of the programs we currently conduct at LPS include:
Batforce transition programs through mindfulness and art
Chaplaincy
Lego Club
Breakfast Club
Peer mentoring
Buddy program
Inclusion means every child belongs, is valued, and participates meaningfully in learning and school life. At Lara Primary School, we recognise that students arrive with different strengths, interests and backgrounds, and our role is to remove barriers so all students can experience success alongside their peers.
We support this through a whole-school approach to wellbeing and inclusion, working together as a community to understand each student’s strengths, needs and goals, and to promote engagement and lifelong learning.
Inclusive practice may look like:
supportive and predictable learning environments
clear routines, expectations and visual supports
responsive teaching materials and alternative ways to show learning
scaffolded tasks and adjusted workload
assistive and digital technologies
targeted small-group or individual support
adjustments that allow students to access the same curriculum as their peers
Every student’s needs are recognised and catered for through a profile of supports. For some students this includes an Individual Education Plan, developed in partnership with families/students and aligned with both school and external specialist goals. These plans guide teaching, track progress, and help ensure consistency across home, school and allied health supports.
At Lara Primary School, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and supported. Our Wellbeing Team works alongside families to help navigate challenges, strengthen supports, and ensure each child has the right environment to grow and thrive.
Sometimes families may benefit from additional support beyond the classroom. We can assist with connecting to and coordinating with external services commonly accessed by children and young people, including:
NDIS providers and allied health professionals (e.g. speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology)
Infant Child Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (ICMHWS) and other child and adolescent mental health services
The Orange Door and family support services
Local agencies such as Meli, disability services, and community-based counselling supports
Paediatricians and other medical professionals
Our team can help by:
Supporting referral processes and sharing relevant school-based information
Participating in care team meetings
Collaborating with service providers to create consistent support between home and school
Assisting families to understand available pathways and options
Advocating for adjustments that help children feel secure and engaged at school
We value the knowledge families hold about their children and work in partnership to ensure support reflects each child’s individual strengths, needs and goals.
