Media Arts is aligned with Visual Art, Drama, Music and Dance, and explores a range of media forms and production processes. While much of today’s media is digital, it also includes written texts such as newspapers and posters. Media is a form of mass communication used to inform, persuade and entertain.
Students explore how media works are created and experienced across cultures, times and places, including the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. They develop an understanding of media purpose, audience and representation, and learn how media languages and technologies construct meaning.
Throughout their learning, students build foundational knowledge of what media is and how it is used. They identify purpose, explore media features, and develop skills in using digital tools safely and responsibly. As their understanding deepens, students analyse how ideas and viewpoints are communicated, examine representation and context, and apply safe and ethical practices when creating their own media works.
